Sounds of Slovenia: From Folk Musicians to "Avseniks"

23 Nov 2007 - 31 Aug 2008
Slovenski etnografski muzej / Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Metelkova ulica 2

Sounds of Slovenia is an exhibition on the history of Slovenian music and musical instruments with a special emphasis on the musical elements and instruments used by Slovenian folk musicians. The exhibition also shows how Slovenian popular folk music developed from the tradition of folk singing and music-making in the second half of the 20th century, making its leading exponents such as Ansambel bratov Avsenik, Ansambel Lojzeta Slaka and a number of other pop-folk bands internationally famous. Partly owing to Slovenian emigrant communities, Slovenian popular folk music left an indelible mark on musical life in Europe and America.
