The Dobrepolje is a vast karst plain extending across two interconnected valleys. It is known for several karst caves, particularly the very large Podpeška jama cave with its numerous underground halls and passages, which provides home to the endemic amphibian salamander Proteus anguinus. The first map of the cave was in 1687 published by the Slovenian polyhistor Janez Vajkard Valvasor, representing the first map of a cave ever published in Slovenia and one of the earliest published in Europe. Another larger cave in the area is the 130-metre long and 10-metre deep Kompoljska jama cave in the village of Kompolje. The rest of the area's better known caves include the Tekavča jama cave, the cave by the Church of St. Anthony (Cerkev sv. Antona), the Tatarica cave and the Špelkna jama cave in the village of Podtabor.

Located by the Church of St. Anthony on the hill above the village of Zdenska vas is Slovenia's largest linden tree grove, protected as a natural monument. The Church of St. Florian (Cerkev sv. Florijana) in the village of Ponikve boasts two 16th century Baroque altars, which belong among Slovenia's most valuable pieces of the kind. On view at the church located in the village of Videm, which was built in 1844, are several works by the Slovenian master painters Matevž Langus and Štefan Šubic. The main altar was sculpted by Ivan Zajc, the artist who also sculpted the Prešeren Monument in Ljubljana's central square.

The village of Zagorica is known as the birth place of the renowned Slovenian artists France and Tone Kralj. The best known among their works on view at the village is France Kralj's tombstone of the Drobnič family, located at the cemetery behind the Videm Church (Videmska cerkev). It is decorated with 228 relief images of different torsos.
